About the Durite 0-834-05 Zener Diode
The Durite 0-834-05 Zener diode 5 Watt 15V is an efficient and reliable device from ON Semiconductor's 1N53 series. This Surmetic™ 40 axial lead device features a transfer-moulded, thermosetting plastic package, providing superior protection in most common environmental conditions. It offers superior voltage regulation with tight limits and excellent operating characteristics thanks to its silicon-oxide passivated junctions. The external surfaces are corrosion-resistant, while the leads are easily solderable.
The 15V Zener diode can be used to support several applications and is designed to protect your products from stray voltage and unwanted triggering in 24V CANBUS systems. With a nominal voltage of 15V, the diode blocks the reverse flow of current, ensuring that only the specified voltage passes through the circuit. For example, stray voltage (up to 8VDC) may be present in a 24V CANBUS system. This can cause an issue for products with sensitive trigger-dependent inputs (+2VDC), such as an indicator input into a side detection system.
As stated, the Zener diode will only allow the nominal voltage to pass through the circuit while blocking the current's reverse flow. This ensures the product is only activated when the trigger is fully applied, and the voltage is above nominal. In the case of a 24VDC system, usually 22-30VDC, the stray voltage can no longer interrupt the circuit and cause spurious triggering.
Diode Polarity
One side of the diode is the Positive terminal (anode). The other terminal marked with a stripe on the cylindrical body of the diode is the Negative end (cathode). Current flows in one direction only, from the anode (Positive +) to the cathode (Negative -).
