We hope you will continue to interact with us in the same way you have been doing over the years.
Please join in by posting comments, sharing and, of course, emailing us your thoughts. Also, please send us your projects and photos; we cannot promise to use them 'on review', but the team always appreciates your contribution and participation.

1992 Honda Civic EV Conversion, New Zealand - Mike Evans

"I got the idea into my head and then bought my donor car. The EG Honda Civic is the perfect platform for conversion to an electric car; the donor car itself wasn't the biggest expense in the project".

Mike is a "time served" technician and now a New Zealand materials and logistics manager who could not put down his toolbox (familiar story?). We salute his green credentials and motivation, and Arc Components Limited has an excellent EV-related product range to meet most needs. With over 25 years of working within the electric vehicle market, the specialist parts knowledge base for enthusiasts and developers is extensive. Proving, without doubt, the future of motoring, albeit in need of technological advancement, is electric.

Fuse Ratings Explained

Modern fuses used in automotive and domestic applications now have (and should have) standardisation for fuse identification.

Current fuses in production standardise the displayed rating for "Continuous use", but in some cases, in particular glass fuses, the rating on the fuse cap can still be marked with a "Blow rating" in Amperage by manufacturers, which often leads to confusion even within the electrical trade.

Fast and Furious 6 - Hollywood Hits London and the UK

When Hollywood called again to the UK at the back end of 2012, in the form of the Universal Pictures and 'Fast Productions' producers of the blockbuster franchise "Fast and Furious", Adrian and the team were ready to supply fast and not-so-furious parts solutions.

The eagerly anticipated latest film in the blockbuster "Fast and Furious" series, guaranteed to get motor racing fans bums on seats, takes in the sights and sounds of both London and Glasgow. In this fast-paced (reputed to be the most thrilling of) roller-coaster ride, we find Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson (the Rock), Michelle Rodriguez and Paul Walker once again fronting a star-studded cast lineup, putting foot-to-metal around England's great capital city of London.

1953 Humber (Pig) Armoured Truck

The 1953 MK1 FV1611b Humber 1 Ton Armoured Truck, better known as a Humber Pig (due to its appearance), started its working life not as an army vehicle but as a 1 Ton pick-up truck; the UK Army requisitioned it and re-bodied it with the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) body in 1959.

It was designed to carry eight troops, a vehicle commander, and a driver. Powered by a six-cylinder Rolls Royce 4.2L petrol engine, it weighs 4.75 Tons or 6 Tons fully loaded.

12N, 12S, 24N, 24S, 13-Pin and 15-Pin Connector Terminal Guide

The wiring guide presents two standard style caravan and trailer towing connectors configured in their historical terminal functions, the earlier 12N (Normal) ISO 1724 for essential lighting supply and the later 12S (Supplementary) ISO 3732 for extended auxiliary functions.

The two connectors used for lighting and auxiliary connectivity for trailers and caravans are joined in the extensive range of power products by a modern 13-pin connector solution.

American Wire Gauge (AWG) to MM² Conversion Guide

This post is dedicated to an acknowledgement that due to a modern world of information technology and supply chain, circumstances dictate the need to convert wire sizes into a format understandable to a broader global community of mechanical and electrical engineers, specifically for products not purchased from Arc Components Limited, usually that require additional fittings and components that adhere to the UK and metric standards.

While the necessary wiring and cable load values must always be sought for the job in hand, whether for trade, project or DIY applications, there is a need, in the name of service, to assist engineers presented with "Country Specific" product information.

Batteries in Series and Parallel Revisited

A historical blog post revisited. The original blog post became an important feature that tried to address bad practices, particularly within the mobile home and boating communities, highlighting the common misunderstandings of battery connectivity.

One of the frequent questions to our help desk at Arc Components Limited is about batteries linked in Series and Parallel and the effect of voltage and amperage output. To help, we created a simple guide to show the cause and effect of batteries joined together to form battery banks.
